FRESHFIELD CHRISTMAS MEETING

The lodge was pleased to welcome 100 members and guests to our Christmas Meeting. It was a memorable occasion as the lodge conferred Honorary Membership on V.W.Bro. Sid Hale, in recognition of his long and valued service to the MARK DEGREE in general, and his long association with Freshfield MMM Lodge in particular. V.W.Bro. Hale has been the Special Representative of the Provincial Grand Master for over 13 years, he was received into the Lodge with acclamation. At the beginning of the Meeting the Lodge was delighted to receive new Senior and Junior Aprons adorned with the Lodge name and number. The aprons had been provided by Mrs. Mary Twist, in memory of her late husband W.Bro.Bill Twist, P.Prov.G.J.W., who had served the Lodge over many years.

The reverse of the apron was embroidered with this information.
The Worshipful Master Bro. Stanley Howarth,, assisted by his officers advanced Bro. Jon Walsh of Southport Temperance Lodge No.2815, in exemplary manner. The standard of ceremony was appreciated by all present.

The Festive Board was Freshfields usual traditional fayre of locally sourced Game Soup and Bread Cobs, Battered Fresh Fish, Chips and Mushy Peas, Cheese Board and Port. The meal was enjoyed by candlelight, and at the conclusion W.Bro. Gordon Kay conducted the Raffle as only he can, which again contained a vast quantity of the prized local onions. The Lodge is most grateful to the many Members and Guests who were most generous in providing the raffle prizes.

During the Evening some £860 was raised for donation to Charity.

Unfortunately due to the Artic weather conditions in the Southport area, the evening was called to a close at 9pm, to allow Brethren to travel home safely. (I am however reliably informed that a number of brave souls hung on until 11pm)

The Lodge extends its thanks to all who attended and look forward to their company in the not too distant future.

Seasonal Greetings to All, W.Bro. Brian Molyneux
